HOME REMEDIES TO OVERCOME CALCIUM DEFICIENCY.

Dear Friends!! In our day to day life we are always trying to improve our daily nutrients intake but due to the constraints of our lifestyle we start lacking on the key nutrients. One of these key nutrients is Calcium. Calcium level degrades with age and cause reduction in bone density. Low bone density leads to pain in joints and cracking of bones with normal impacts that would not cause any harm to people with normal bone density.

Let's first understand what calcium deficiency is. Calcium deficiency is called Hypocalcemia in medical terms. It is caused by low calcium levels in the blood serum. The normal range of Calcium in blood is 8.8–10.7 mg/dl. Calcium level less than 8.8 mg/dl defined as Hypocalcemia.

Now let us discuss how to improve this condition with things already available at home. One person needs to consume 1000 mg of Calcium everyday to maintain the level of Calcium in his/her body. Following are some home remedies to prevent Hypocalcemia.

Ginger Tea: 100 grams of Ginger contains 16 mg of Calcium which is 2% of our daily need. So including ginger in your tea is definitely going to give a boost to the Calcium level in long run. Ginger can be used in regular tea or you can make special ginger tea by adding a one inch long piece of ginger in one and half cup of water and boiling it until water is reduced to one cup. Now drink this as tea.

Ginger is considered to have "Hot" effect on our body so amount of Ginger can be reduced as per your liking. People suffering from nose bleeding or pregnant women should not use this remedy.

Cumin water: Cumin contains 931 mg of Calcium per 100 gram of it which is 93 % of our daily need. To make Cumin water, soak cumin seeds in two glasses of water overnight. Boil that water in the morning and when the water remains half then filter it and drink it. You can chew the cumin seeds also and drink the water after wards for better effects.

This cumin water also helps with weight loss and stomach upset.

Sesame: Sesame seeds contain 975 mg of Calcium per 100 gram of it, which is 98 % of our daily need. Take 2 teaspoons of roasted sesame daily. Sesame Laddu can also be eaten for change of taste.

Ragi: Ragi contains 344 mg of Calcium per 100 grams. Eat Idli, porridge or Cheela made of Ragi at least twice a week. This will provide sufficient amount of calcium.

Figs and Almonds: 100 grams of Figs contains 60 mg of Calcium and same amount of Almonds contain 264 mg of Calcium. To use them soak 4 almonds and 2 figs in water overnight. Chew them in the morning and eat them.

Sprouts: Eat a bowl of sprouts during breakfast or evening in light appetite. Sprouted lentils contain comparatively lower amount of Calcium than the items listed above but the portion size is more than other items so increasing the Calcium intake.

Lemonade: 100 gram of lemon juice contains 26 mg of Calcium. Drink a glass of lemonade in the evening every day. Eating one sour fruit during the day can also benefit.

Soybeans: Soybeans contain 277 mg of Calcium per 100 grams of it , which is 28 % of our daily calcium requirement. Eat soybean vegetable once a week or increase the amount of Soybeans in food.
Morning sun: Taking Calcium alone is never going to improve the amount of Calcium in our body. We also need Vitamin D to absorb the Calcium. Vitamin D can be absorbed by spending about 10 minutes in the sun every morning before 8 am.
